With more than 300 galleries, squeezed into just 10 city street blocks between 10thand 11thavenues, the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan is considered the contemporary art capital of the world. On a cold Saturday afternoon in December, the New York alumni met to explore and enjoy a gallery tour. Two of us were newcomers to the NYC alumni club, some of us were art lovers and all of us were looking forward to warming up indoors afterward.
Annette Schaich had volunteered to organize a tour featuring artists like Catherine Opine, Edward Burtynsky, Ken Price, Nick Cave Ellsworth Kelly and Diane Arbus. We saw everything from Sculptures, Photography and Paintings using modernist, avant-garde and well established trends and techniques. There was everything for everybody. After close to three exciting hours of gallery visits the group wrapped up the day together in a cozy Italian wine bar on 10th.
